MUNICH, Germany – Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL), the world’s largest battery manufacturer, has officially unveiled its new Shenxing Pro battery for the European electric vehicle (EV) market. The announcement, made on September 7, 2025, ahead of the IAA Mobility auto show in Munich, highlights CATL’s intensified focus on meeting European e-mobility demands with advanced LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery technology.

The Shenxing Pro aims to address key consumer concerns in Europe, offering two distinct variants: one focused on super long life and extended range, and another on ultra-fast charging. Both versions incorporate CATL’s proprietary NP 3.0 (No Propagation 3.0) technology, emphasizing enhanced safety, a critical factor for wider EV adoption.

Key Features and Variants of the Shenxing Pro

The Shenxing Pro battery lineup is designed with European driving habits and market needs in mind, including higher highway speeds, longer lifespans for leased vehicles, and reliable performance in colder climates.

Shenxing Pro Super Long Life & Long Range Battery

This variant sets a new benchmark for LFP batteries, boasting a remarkable WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure) range of 758 kilometers (approximately 470 miles). This significantly surpasses the typical 300-500 km range often associated with LFP batteries.

Beyond its extensive range, this version is engineered for exceptional durability, offering a lifespan of up to 12 years or 1 million kilometers. CATL states that the battery experiences only a 9% performance degradation after 200,000 kilometers, making it particularly suitable for Europe’s growing leasing market where asset retention is crucial.

Shenxing Pro Super-Fast Charging Battery

For drivers prioritizing rapid charging, the Super-Fast Charging variant offers the ability to add 478 kilometers (approximately 297 miles) of WLTP range in just 10 minutes. This translates to a charging speed of 0.8 kilometers per second, positioning it as Europe’s leading superfast-charging LFP battery.

The battery maintains robust performance even in extreme cold, delivering 410 kilometers of range after a 20-minute charge at -20°C. Furthermore, it can deliver up to 830 kW even at a 20% state of charge, enabling a 0-100 km/h acceleration in a mere 2.5 seconds. This version comes with a warranty of up to 10 years or 240,000 kilometers.

Advanced Technology for Enhanced Safety and Performance

A core innovation across both Shenxing Pro variants is CATL’s NP 3.0 technology. This system is designed to prevent visible flames and smoke during thermal runaway, allowing vehicles to maintain high-voltage supply for over an hour and enabling drivers to reach a safe location without obstructed visibility. This enhanced safety is particularly relevant as the automotive industry moves towards higher levels of autonomous driving.

The batteries also incorporate CATL’s innovative “Wave cells” with a unique design that allows for cooling and fixation from any direction, enhancing structural stability and boosting the battery pack’s stiffness by 25% and doubling its durability. The cell design also breaks traditional Cell-to-Body (CTB) limitations, achieving a remarkable 76% pack volume efficiency.

CATL’s Expanding European Footprint

The launch of the Shenxing Pro underscores CATL’s strategic commitment to the European market. The company entered Europe in 2012 through a partnership with BMW and now collaborates with approximately 90% of European carmakers. CATL operates EV production factories in Germany and Hungary, with a third plant under construction in Spain through a joint venture with Stellantis.

The €7.3 billion (US$8.6 billion) factory in Debrecen, Hungary, is projected to begin production by early 2026, aiming for an annual capacity of 100 GWh, enough to power 2 million EVs each with a 500km range. This facility will significantly expand CATL’s European production capabilities, complementing its existing German factory in Thuringia which began production in 2023.

CATL’s CCO and SVP of global business, Tan Libin, expressed the company’s ambition to go beyond “in Europe, for Europe” to ultimately “of Europe,” aiming to build an upgraded EV ecosystem across the continent, encompassing material production, battery manufacturing, remanufacturing, and recycling. This holistic approach is intended to accelerate Europe’s energy transition.

Addressing European EV Market Concerns

The European EV market is rapidly growing, with the EV penetration rate rising from 23% to 26% in the first half of 2025 and projected to reach 29% by year-end. The International Energy Agency (IEA) forecasts European EV sales to hit 4 million units this year.

Despite this growth, consumer surveys, such as McKinsey’s 2025 Consumer Mobility Pulse Survey, identify persistent barriers including high costs, battery lifespan, range limitations, charging infrastructure gaps, and battery safety. CATL explicitly designed the Shenxing Pro to directly address these challenges, aiming to provide an optimal solution for European e-mobility needs. The emphasis on LFP chemistry also highlights a focus on cost-effectiveness, which is gaining traction among European automakers.

With its dual focus on extended range and ultra-fast charging, coupled with advanced safety features and a commitment to local production, CATL’s Shenxing Pro battery is poised to significantly impact the evolving European electric vehicle landscape.
