A units mistake is the cheapest way to ruin a good calculation. This converter covers 18 categories of engineering quantities — length, area, volume, mass, density, pressure, temperature, energy, power, flow and more — with conversion factors that are SI/NIST-exact.

Method

Every unit maps to its category's base unit through an affine relation (a factor plus, where needed, an offset — which is how °C, °F and K interconvert correctly). Conversions run through the base unit, so any-to-any conversion inside a category is exact to the published factor. Energy units follow the International Table convention for the BTU and calorie.

Pick a category first; the From and To lists then show only compatible units, which makes dimensionally invalid conversions impossible to request.

Frequently asked questions

Factors are SI/NIST-exact where an exact definition exists (inch, pound, bar) and follow the International Table convention for the BTU and calorie. Temperature conversions handle the °C/°F/K offsets exactly rather than as pure multipliers.

Units only interconvert within a category — pressure to pressure, energy to energy. The category selector enforces this, which is a feature: it makes dimensionally invalid conversions impossible rather than silently wrong.
