Every line makes material it cannot sell: failed QC, off-spec batches, start-up and changeover waste, damaged finished goods. It is worthless, it is often branded, and until it is destroyed it is stock on a system and a liability in a yard. A LitBurn clears it at the rate the line makes it.

The entry point to the LitBurn range. A 3.3 m³ primary chamber and three burners give continuous 125 kg/h destruction in a footprint that fits a standard yard bay, which makes it the usual choice for a single-site operator replacing skip hire rather than a multi-site waste contract.

The most specified unit in the range. Chamber volume rises to 5.5 m³ for 250 kg/h continuous throughput while the external width grows by only 230 mm over the LBI-125, so sites that outgrow the smallest unit rarely have to rework the slab or the building line.

A 9.6 m³ chamber — nearly double the LBI-250 — for medium-scale industrial waste destruction. At this size most operators pair the unit with heat recovery, because the thermal output during a full shift is large enough to displace a dedicated water heater.

The largest LitBurn: a 16.2 m³ chamber running 500 kg/h continuously. Specified where waste arrives faster than a batch unit can clear it — large manufacturing sites, industrial estates, and operators consolidating several smaller waste contracts onto one machine.

Off-specification batches code under 16 03 — 16 03 06 for organic and 16 03 05* where hazardous — with process codes in chapters 07 and 12 for residues from the production step itself. Name the ones you will actually produce at permit application.
The hierarchy declaration has to be true
Waste transfer documentation carries a declaration that the hierarchy has been applied. Keep the evidence of what was diverted to recycling alongside the run records for what was not — that pair is the answer to the only awkward question this stream attracts.
Declare the halogenated condition where it applies
PVC, PTFE and chlorinated coating systems in a product stream push a charge past 1% halogenated organic content and set the secondary minimum at 1,100°C. It is a materials question, so answer it from the bill of materials rather than from the waste description.
Reconcile the record to the write-off
One run, one weight, one log, matched to the stock entry that condemned the batch. Where a customer contract requires certified destruction, that pair is the certificate's evidence rather than its replacement.

Unsellable stock stops occupying the building
Reject product waits in a quarantine bay for a collection, on a stock system, in a fire loading calculation. Destroying it on the day it is condemned closes the line rather than moving it to a different corner of the yard.
It never reappears on a market
Off-spec and rejected goods have a resale value to somebody, and every skip is an opportunity for them to find it. Destruction on site removes the transfer entirely — nothing leaves in a recognisable form.
The write-off gains a record
A run log, a weight and a date reconcile against the stock entry that condemned the batch. A skip movement reconciles against a transfer note, which says a container went somewhere rather than that a product ceased to exist.
Line rate stops being a waste problem
A continuous unit takes reject at the rate a line produces it, including through a bad run. A batch machine or a weekly collection turns a process upset into a storage problem for the rest of the week.

PLC control with chamber thermocouples, interlocked charge door and a time-stamped temperature record per run. For destruction that has to be evidenced — brand protection, customer-mandated disposal, off-spec write-off — that log is the difference between a certificate and a claim.
Three-burner set and fuel train
Configured for natural gas, LPG, diesel, biofuel or hydrogen. High-calorific streams such as polymer and rubber need less burner input once they are alight, not more — the burners are there to reach and hold the condition, not to do the work the waste is already doing.
Coretex refractory lining
Monolithic castable lining rated for the full range and for sustained running at the top of it. On plastics and solvent-bearing waste the chamber spends real time near the ceiling of that range, which is exactly the duty that eats a cheaper lining.
Stack, dispersion data and commissioning
Stack to the height your site-specific dispersion assessment calls for, the emissions data pack the permit application references, on-site commissioning, a witnessed first run and operator training for the shift staff who will actually run it.

Adds 16 03 off-spec codes — and the hazardous 16 03 05* line where the chemistry is — plus a write-off reconciliation, so the run record matches what left the stock system.
The batch or run is written off in the stock system with the quantity that will be destroyed. That figure is what the run record is reconciled against afterwards — it is the start of the audit trail, not paperwork that follows it.
Clean single-material scrap goes to recovery. What reaches the charge door is the contaminated, mixed, coated or branded fraction that has no route — and the hierarchy declaration should be able to show that split.
Stillages, tote bins and wheeled skips are fed through the front dual door at floor level while the unit runs. Packaging goes in with the product where it is contaminated; it does not need stripping first.
Primary combustion with two-second secondary retention above 850°C, or 1,100°C where the product carries more than 1% halogenated organic content. Feed steadily — high-calorific product spikes a chamber if it is tipped in whole.
Residue is 3–5% mineral ash plus any inert filler or metal fraction. The run log and the weight are matched back to the write-off entry, which is what makes the destruction evidence rather than assertion.

- Clean, recyclable single-material scrapUncontaminated single-polymer, metal, glass or card scrap has a recovery route and the hierarchy requires it to take it. Burning it is the one way to turn a saving into a compliance finding.
- Bulk liquid product and solventThis class of unit is not a liquid injection plant. Liquid batches go to a licensed liquids route; absorbed residues on media are a different question and belong to the absorbents stream.
- Aerosols, gas cylinders and pressurised productSealed vessels under heat, whatever is inside them. Filled aerosols, cartridges and cylinders follow their own route regardless of why they were condemned.
- Battery-bearing and electrical productFinished goods containing cells or electronics are batteries and WEEE waste with their own recovery obligations, and the cells are a fire risk in a charge as well as a legal one.
Can you legally burn production rejects & off-spec product on site?
Technically, yes: the chamber destroys almost everything on the accepted list at 850–1,200°C, and capability is rarely the constraint. Legally is a separate question. What your site is allowed to burn is set by your environmental permit from the Environment Agency, SEPA or NIEA and the waste codes written into it. The never-charged list is different again: those materials are out of scope for the unit or governed by a direction, and no permit wording brings them back in. Production reject waste is material that came off the line and cannot be sold: batches outside specification, QC failures, start-up and changeover purge, trim, damaged or mislabelled finished goods and returns that cannot re-enter stock. Off-spec batches code under 16 03 — 16 03 06 for organic material, 16 03 05* where it is hazardous — with process-specific codes in chapters 07 and 12 for the rest. The reason it is burned rather than recycled is usually contamination or composition rather than condition. A blended, filled, coated or multi-material product has no separation route worth running; an off-spec chemical batch cannot be reprocessed into a saleable one; a mislabelled finished good cannot be sold at any price without becoming somebody's brand problem. Where the reject genuinely is clean single-material scrap, it should go to recycling and the hierarchy says so. The destruction condition is the standard one: 850–1,200°C primary with two-second secondary retention above 850°C, and 1,100°C where the material carries more than 1% halogenated organic content. Most polymer and coated product streams are the ones to check against that threshold. What the run produces beyond ash is a record. For a write-off that has to reconcile against a stock system, or a product a customer specified must be destroyed rather than diverted, the time-stamped log and the weights are what turns the write-off into evidence.

Only for the fraction that has no viable recovery route. The waste hierarchy is a duty and it is declared on your transfer documentation, so clean single-material scrap should be recycled. Contaminated, mixed, coated, branded or chemically off-spec material generally has no such route, and that is the fraction a unit is specified for.
Not where it is contaminated by the product or carries the branding you are destroying — it goes in with the goods, which removes a handling step and a second waste stream. Clean outer packaging that can be separated easily and recycled should be, for the same hierarchy reason.

Feed it steadily rather than tipping a full stillage in. Polymer carries a lot of energy and a dumped charge spikes the chamber instead of increasing throughput. Run at a controlled feed rate and the same unit clears more in an hour than an operator forcing it will.
Roughly 95% of the mass stops leaving the site, so what is left is the ash and its transfer note. Against that you carry fuel, operator time and a permit. The crossover is a tonnage question rather than a principle — send us the weekly arisings and we will do the arithmetic either way.
Yes, and most sites specify it that way: rejects, contaminated absorbents, polymer trim and coating waste run through one permitted unit. Every stream needs its codes named at application, and the hazardous fractions keep their own consignment records even when they never leave the site.
